Damien Tansey’s track record in winning cases for his clients confirms his reputation as one of the most accomplished and feared solicitors in his field in Ireland, inside and outside the courts.

Damien is a specialist in medical negligence and medical malpractice litigation as well as personal injury claims. Damien has won some of the largest compensation awards* granted by the High Court for his victims. The reason behind Damien’s success is his compassion for his clients. He cares deeply about victims who have been harmed by others and he works tirelessly to make sure they receive justice. 

Specialist areas: Medical litigation of all types, in particular cases involving childbirth and birth injury, cerebral palsy, brain injury, orthopaedic and surgical and delays in diagnosis.

In recognition of his skills and expertise, Damien Tansey was made a Senior Counsel (granted a Patent of Precedence), effective from October 2020. 

Damien works almost exclusively for the injured parties and claimants in cases against the big institutions, such as the Irish Government, Health Service Executive (HSE), local authorities, An Bord Pleanála and others. He is also called on by other law firms to act as an expert witness. 

Damien is a notary public, a commissioner for oaths and a member of the Litigation Committee of the Law Society of Ireland. He is a director of The Model Arts and Niland Gallery, a registered charity in Sligo. 

Damien worked in the Irish Department of Justice and as a full-time university lecturer in law prior to founding Damien Tansey & Associates in 1980.
