Our firm acted for Michelle Craughwell (28), from Tuam, Galway who was belatedly diagnosed with adrenocortical carcinoma, a rare and aggressive cancer.
Outside the High Court yesterday, Damien Tansey SC said that if the tumour had been detected three years ago, “the outcome would have been totally different” and Ms Craughwell would have “a significantly longer life expectancy”.
In Court, presided by Judge Paul Coffey, the HSE and UHG apologised “unreservedly” to Ms Craughwell “for the deficiencies in radiology care” that led to a delay in diagnosing her cancer. They said: “We wish to acknowledge the upset and distress that this has caused you, and we do not underestimate the challenges that you are facing.”
