Damien Tansey Solicitors LLP secures Apology and Substantial Settlement from Galway University Hospital

Our firm acted for Mary Keane (49), from Mayo who was belatedly diagnosed with a brain tumour at Galway University Hospital in 2023, following years of severe headaches.

On behalf of Ms Keane, we took a medical negligence action against GUH on the basis that her tumour should have been diagnosed years earlier – following MRI scans in both 2013 and 2016.  Yesterday, in the High Court, Galway University Hospital issued an Apology to Ms Keane for “deficiencies in care” that led to the delay in diagnosing her brain tumour.

As a result of the delay, Ms Keane was unable to undergo surgery on the tumour which would have extended her life by up to 5 years. In addition to the Apology, Ms Keane’s case was settled out of Court for substantial damages.
